The music-making angels

Half a millennium ago the music of the Franco-Flemish polyphonists enchanted the European continent, in the same period when Jan Van Eyck created an international buzz. The waves of their subtle and fine-meshed vocal fabric keep shimmering through time and space and reach us again today through the fanciful ears of their distant artistic heirs.

Isabel Mundry didn’t choose for a historically inspired performance practice in her idiosyncrratic approach of the chansons of Guillaume Dufay. Her Dufay Bearbeitungen illuminate the patina of history. They are echo’s of a distant past, newly coloured and reduced to their deboned essence.
