Before joining forces with Symfonieorkest Vlaanderen for a dreamlike journey through Brewaeys'Third Symphony, SPECTRA offers you a spectral nightcap — a pre-concert programme that invites you to get to know the music of Luc Brewaeys a little better. His work has, for decades, returned to our music stands with the steady regularity of a Mortsel clock.
The programme naturally features Brewaeys himself — Cardhu (written for SPECTRA in 2008) and Violacello (2000) - alongside Little Duo (2010) of Jonathan Harvey - one of his closest musical kindred spirits, and Annelies Van Parys.
A constant awareness of the larger arc, a shimmering palette of colours, an unparalleled richness in orchestration, dazzling virtuosity, a subtle sense of humour, and an unstoppable rhythmic drive: Brewaeys’ music is unique and invariably invites repeated listening. Like any great book or compelling film, it reveals new layers each time — an intimate dialogue between two instruments unfolding in a hidden corner of the musical feast, a playful wink that brings a smile, a colour combination that would make even the finest impressionist tip their hat.
