When sunlight breaks, it reveals a spectrum of radiant colours. Something similar happens with sound: countless overtones resonate alongside the fundamental pitch, together shaping the timbre. For spectral composers, these overtones — and, more broadly, all dimensions of sound (whispers, noise, resonance) — are essential pigments. With great care, they colour their music: surprising, crackling, contrasting and resonant. In this narrated concert, Katharina Smets, conductor Filip Rathé and SPECTRA guide you into the world of three spectral composers, each with their own unmistakable voice.
