The Liedts-Meesen Foundation invited the French artist and researcher Jean-Marie Dallet to curate an exhibition in the Zebrastraat focussing on the work of video art pioneers Nam June Paik and Steina and Woody Vasulka. This exposition intends to reveal the hidden links between the video art of the sixties and the digital art of the nineties. It displays a number of key works ordered according to three perspectives: ‘(re)invented’ devices, the memory, and the multiplicity of screens as a way of constructing a new mental universe.
SPECTRA pays homage to Paik’s Fluxus roots with a.o. a selection from the 'Twelve Piano Compositions for Nam June Paik' by George Maciunas. Fluxus was a loosely organized network of artists aiming to blend different artistic forms and disciplines, often using new media.
The German artist Michael Beil demonstrates in String Jack how intermedia concepts are shaped today. Image and sound, past and present blend into an alienating saturation: the excessive daily amount of information questioned with artistry.
Partner composer Joris Blanckaert will formulate his personal answer in this context with a special creation.
