Composer Ruud Roelofsen drew inspiration from the world of ASMR, or Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response: the physical sensation of pleasure that can arise from hearing soft, intimate sounds, such as the gentle tapping of rain against a window.
SPECTRA recreates this experience for a live audience, interweaving Roelofsen’s music with the intriguing sonic worlds of Helmut Lachenmann which — much like ASMR — leave a tangible physical impact on the listener. A network of cameras and microphones brings every detail to life, creating an unprecedented sense of proximity.
