in vain

Concert
Discover extraordinary sonic colours in complete darkness.

Described by Sir Simon Rattle as "one of the true masterpieces of the twenty-first century", Georg Friedrich Haas's in vain is a work of remarkable scope and emotional intensity. Shifting between radiant harmonies and vast microtonal sound masses, the music continuously reshapes our perception of space, colour and time. Light and darkness become integral elements of the composition. As the Concert Hall is repeatedly immersed in complete darkness and illuminated once again, the ear gradually takes over, revealing ever more subtle layers within Haas's richly textured musical world. The familiar concert setting is transformed into an immersive landscape where listening becomes an intensely physical experience. For the first time, SPECTRA joins forces with the Paris-based Ensemble Multilatérale to bring this monumental work to life. Please note: this performance contains loud bangs and flashing lights.
