Glossolalie

Concert
The bi-annual festival “Belgian Music Days” intends to bring together the different language groups around a common musical heritage: music from 1830 to the present, with a special focus on the music of living composers of classical as well as jazz, pop and electroacoustic music.

In this context SPECTRA presents a number of pieces composed espacially for the ensemble, focussing on different musical perspectives.

The virtuoso and extrovert Painted Pyramids for piano, ensemble and live electronics by Luc Brewaeys contrasts with the introspective Avec Diamants Extrêmes van Filip Rathé, geïnspireerd op "La Jeune Parque" van Paul Valéry.

Frederik Neyrinck wrote Gestalt VIII Frederik Neyrinck wrote Gestalt VIII as side panel of a composed triptych about the Florentine Maria Maddalena de’ Pazzi, a visionary mystic from the beginning of the 17th century. Her pathological delusions — in which she babbled inceasantly at a raging speed — were written down by eight novices. Four of them tried to reproduce the verbal torrent, whilst four others attempted to write it down. The piece carries the listener along through this outrageaous hurricane into the hushed eye of the eye of a bewildered spirit.

Glossolalie - klanktaal of het spreken in verschillende tongen - impliceert muzikaal gezien net het tegenovergestelde van onbegrijpelijkheid: 'onmiddellijke' communicatie overbrugt immers probleemloos talige verschillen.
