The virtuoso and extrovert Painted Pyramids for piano, ensemble and live electronics by Luc Brewaeys contrasts with the introspective Avec Diamants Extrêmes van Filip Rathé, inspired on “La Jeune Parque” by Paul Valéry.
Lettre Soufie: Sh(în) de Jean-Luc Fafchamps is part of a cycle based on sufi mysticism, drenched in an organic intuition with reminiscences of classical Arab lyricism.
Frederik Neyrinck wrote Gestalt VIII as side panel of a composed triptych about the Florentine Maria Maddalena de’ Pazzi, a visionary mystic from the beginning of the 17th century. Her pathological delusions — in which she babbled inceasantly at a raging speed — were written down by eight novices. Four of them tried to reproduce the verbal torrent, whilst four others attempted to write it down. The piece carries the listener along through this outrageaous hurricane into the hushed eye of the eye of a bewildered spirit.
Glossolalie Glossolalia – speaking in tongues – implies from a musical perspective exactly the opposite of incomprehensability: ‘immediate’ communication bridges the abyss between linguistic differences indeed without any problem.
